The Short Answer

What Is Rooted Valley?

Rooted Valley is a full-service hair salon, spa, and artisan boutique at 644 & 646 Main Street in downtown Grand Junction, Colorado. Under one roof you'll find master hairstylists, licensed massage therapists, a certified vibroacoustic therapist, a licensed medical esthetician, a permanent jewelry artist, a dedicated hair tinsel studio, and a curated boutique of more than a dozen local makers. Every specialist runs their own independent practice, so you get the personal attention of a private studio with the range of a full-service salon.

Rooted Valley isn't a franchise and it isn't a chain. It's something Grand Junction hadn't seen before: a thoughtfully curated space where independent beauty and wellness professionals share a home, support one another, and serve the Grand Valley community together. Owner Taylor McKay built it as the salon she always wished existed here — one organized around skill, intention, and genuine community rather than commission quotas and high turnover.

Because each professional operates as their own small business, you book directly with the specialist who's right for you. Your colorist sets her own schedule. Your massage therapist runs her own calendar. Your esthetician owns her own skincare practice. The salon provides the beautiful downtown space, the foot traffic, and the shared community; the specialists provide the craft. The result is consistency, accountability, and a relationship with one person who knows your hair, your skin, or your story over time.

This guide walks through every service Rooted Valley offers — what each one is, who provides it, what it costs, and the questions people most often ask before booking. Whether you're searching for the best hair colorist in Grand Junction, where to get welded permanent jewelry, who offers vibroacoustic therapy in the Grand Valley, or simply where to buy locally made jewelry and skincare downtown, the answers are all here.

Who Rooted Valley is for

Rooted Valley serves clients who care about craft and want a real relationship with the person doing their hair, skin, or bodywork. That includes longtime Grand Valley residents who are tired of bouncing between chain salons, newcomers looking for a stylist who listens before they cut, brides and bridal parties planning a celebration, people navigating a major hair change or color correction, and anyone who wants their beauty routine and their support-local values to point in the same direction. If you've ever sat in a chair wishing the person actually understood what you were asking for, this is the kind of place built to fix that.

A few of the people Rooted Valley was built for:

What makes it different from a chain salon

Three things set Rooted Valley apart from a typical commission salon or franchise. First, every specialist is independent — they own their work, set their schedules, and answer directly to their clients, which means accountability and consistency rather than turnover. Second, the skill level is unusually high for the market: a former national color educator, stylists licensed since 1989 and 2002, a certified vibroacoustic therapist, and a licensed medical esthetician under one roof. Third, the whole experience is curated — from the historic Main Street building to the local-maker boutique — around the idea that beauty, wellness, and community belong together.

Finding Us

Location & Service Area

Rooted Valley is located at 644 & 646 Main Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501 — in the historic brick building on Main Street, next to The Winery Restaurant, just west of 7th Street, in the heart of the downtown shopping and dining district. The salon serves the entire Grand Valley and surrounding Western Colorado.

Downtown Grand Junction's Main Street is the cultural center of the Grand Valley, lined with locally owned restaurants, galleries, and shops, and anchored by the Avalon Theatre. Rooted Valley sits right in the middle of it, in a historic brick storefront that spans two addresses — 644 and 646 Main Street — housing the salon, spa rooms, permanent jewelry station, and artisan boutique.

Parking

There is street parking directly on Main Street and the surrounding blocks. For longer visits, there are large public parking lots behind the Avalon Theater and behind The Winery Restaurant, both within a short walk.

Hours

Rooted Valley is open Tuesday through Saturday. General salon hours are Tuesday through Thursday 9:00am–7:00pm, Friday 9:00am–5:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am–4:00pm. Monday is by appointment and Sunday is closed. Because each specialist keeps their own schedule, individual stylist, therapist, and esthetician hours vary — the most reliable approach is to contact your specialist directly or call the salon to confirm availability. Same-day openings are limited, so booking ahead is recommended.

Communities served

Rooted Valley draws clients from across Mesa County and the broader Grand Valley. Regular clients travel in from Grand Junction, Fruita, Palisade, Clifton, Orchard Mesa, Redlands, Fruitvale, Loma, Mack, Whitewater, Collbran, and De Beque, as well as from Delta, Cedaredge, and Montrose to the south. Whether you're coming from a Redlands neighborhood, the wine country in Palisade, or down the valley from Delta, the downtown Main Street location is easy to reach and central to the region.

The salon is also close to many of the Grand Valley's landmarks: a short drive from the Colorado National Monument, near Colorado Mesa University, walking distance from Las Colonias Park and the Colorado River, and minutes from Lincoln Park. Visitors exploring the Grand Mesa, the Book Cliffs, or downtown's dining scene often pair a visit with an appointment.

Hair Services

Hair Color in Grand Junction

Rooted Valley offers full-service professional hair color starting at $120, including balayage, color melting, baby lights, highlights, lived-in and sun-kissed finishes, fashion and creative color, toning, glossing, and color correction. Owner Taylor McKay spent eight years as a National Color Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems, and every stylist on the team is a color specialist. Complimentary consultations are available for all color services.

Color is the heart of what Rooted Valley does. The team approaches it the way educators do — understanding the underlying chemistry of your hair, planning a realistic path to your goal, and protecting hair health along the way. Whether you want a subtle refresh or a dramatic transformation, every color service begins with a conversation about where your hair is now, where you want it to go, and how to get there without compromising its condition.

Highlighting & multidimensional color — from $120

Highlighting and multidimensional services use the highest-quality products and the most current techniques to add depth, brightness, and movement. This is the category for anyone wanting dimension rather than a single flat shade.

Balayage, color melting, baby lights & sun-kissed color — from $150

These freehand techniques create soft, natural, grown-out-beautifully color — the lived-in look that's become the signature of the modern salon. Balayage and color melting blend tones seamlessly so your regrowth is gentle rather than harsh, meaning fewer salon visits and a more natural result. Sun-kissed finishes mimic the way hair naturally lightens in summer.

Color refreshing & root touch-up — from $120

For maintaining color you already love — touching up regrowth, refreshing all-over color, or going a new direction with a single-process application.

Fashion & creative color — from $160

For vivid, vibrant, and creative looks, several stylists specialize in fashion color, including bright neon work with Pulp Riot color. This is the category for bold pinks, blues, purples, and custom creative finishes.

Color correction — consultation required

Color correction repairs color that didn't go as planned — whether it was done at home or elsewhere. Because every situation is different, correction is customized to your hair and always begins with a consultation to assess the work involved and provide accurate pricing.

Toner — from $38 · Clear gloss & shine treatments — from $35

Toners cut brassiness, create silver or pearly finishes, or add warmth, and they add incredible shine to any color. Clear color gloss treatments double as a strengthening, moisturizing treatment — great for adding shine to blondes, natural, and colored hair, and for supporting hair through a grow-out.

Hair Services

Haircuts & Styling

Haircuts at Rooted Valley start at $58 for women, $38 for men, and $38 for children 12 and under (or $58 with a blow-dry style). Every haircut is performed by an expertly trained stylist using precision techniques and includes a wash, condition, blow-dry, and style with salon-quality products.

Rooted Valley's stylists deliver everything from traditional, classic looks to expressive modern cuts incorporating asymmetry and advanced layering. The philosophy is simple: listen first, cut second. A good haircut should work with your hair's natural movement and fit the life you actually live, so consultations are built into the appointment.

Women's precision haircut — from $58

Professional cutting and styling for classic or modern looks, paired with the finest salon-only hair care products and finished with a wash, condition, blow-dry, and style.

Men's haircut — from $38

A sharp, polished cut with clean lines and layering tailored to your style — ideal whether you're heading into a big meeting or just keeping a clean look.

Children's haircuts (12 & under) — from $38

Kids' haircuts are available for current-client families — $38, or $58 with a blow-dry style. This keeps the whole family's hair in one trusted place.

Finishing & styling services

Beyond full haircuts, the team offers round brush finishing and blow-dry styling (from $38), fringe or neckline detail ($14+), perms (consultation required), and special-occasion and wedding styling (from $65 and $75 respectively, by consultation). Round brush blowouts are a favorite for anyone who wants polished, camera-ready hair without committing to a cut.

Hair Services

Hair Extensions

Rooted Valley offers professional hair extensions starting at $450 for a full set, including tape-in extensions, halo extensions, HaloCouture customization, and protein fusion extensions. Owner Taylor McKay is a certified tape and HaloCouture extension specialist, certified in protein fusion, and a former Hot Heads Hair Extension Educator — and the team also fixes extension work done poorly elsewhere.

Extensions are one of the fastest ways to transform your look, whether you want length, volume, or a fun pop of color. Done right, they're comfortable, natural-looking, and protective of your own hair. Done wrong, they're uncomfortable and damaging — which is why certification and experience matter so much. Rooted Valley's specialists have, in their words, seen and fixed everything.

Full set of extensions — from $450

A complete extension application for maximum length and volume, custom-matched to your hair using 100% Remy human hair. Full sets range based on the amount of hair and method used.

Partial & volume extensions — from $350

For clients who want added fullness or a few inches of length rather than a complete transformation.

HaloCouture halos — from $150

Halo extensions sit on the head with no tape, glue, or clips, making them one of the gentlest, most convenient options — you can put them in and take them out yourself. HaloCouture customization tailors the halo to your exact color and length.

Methods offered

The team works with tape-in, I-tip, weft, protein fusion, and halo methods, plus fashion-tone extensions, tinsel, and feather extensions for color and sparkle. The right method depends on your hair type, lifestyle, and goals — which is what the complimentary consultation sorts out.

The Tinsel Station

Hand-Tied Hair Tinsel & Feathers

Rooted Valley is home to the Tinsel Station — Grand Junction's only dedicated hair tinsel experience, led by Dani James. Hair tinsel is a strand-by-strand shimmer service that adds light-catching glimmer to your existing style. It layers beautifully over color or natural hair and can be as subtle or as bold as you want. Dani also offers a hand-tied, no-feel finish and travels as a tinsel tech for events.

Hair tinsel and feather extensions are a specialty unto themselves, and Dani James focuses on them exclusively. She knows exactly which colors create an elegant, natural finish for everyday wear — and she can absolutely deliver wild, full-on party sparkle when that's the goal. The hand-tied technique creates a no-feel finish that's comfortable enough to forget you're wearing it.

What tinsel works for

Traveling tinsel tech for events

Rooted Valley offers keratin smoothing treatments ($200) and a range of repair treatments from $25–$55 to eliminate frizz, rebuild damaged hair, and restore strength and shine. These are ideal for anyone with frizz, breakage, or hair compromised by bleaching, heat, or chemical services.

Keratin smoothing treatment — $200

Rooted Valley uses Keratin Complex smoothing treatments, which pair proven keratin science with current technology to eliminate frizz, increase manageability, repair damage, and leave hair noticeably softer with luminous shine. Treatments are customizable to your hair type and individual needs.

Repair & reconstruction treatments

The team offers several in-salon and take-home repair treatments:

Brows & facial waxing

Rooted Valley also offers brow and facial waxing to fit individual needs: brow wax ($15+), lip wax ($15+), chin wax ($15+), nose wax ($18+), and full-face wax ($45+).

Spa & Wellness

Massage & Bodywork in Grand Junction

Rooted Valley's spa offers massage therapy, vibroacoustic therapy, prenatal massage, medical-grade facials, and waxing through independent licensed practitioners — Leslie Hopp of Dancing Flower Massage, Racheal Litsheim of Deep Alchemy Massage, and Amber Martinez of Luna Rose Skin. Each is an independent practitioner who books directly, giving you the personal attention of a private practice with the energy of a full-service spa.

The spa side of Rooted Valley brings together licensed massage therapists, a certified vibroacoustic therapist, and a licensed medical esthetician, each running their own practice within the space. Modalities include Swedish, deep tissue, sports, and aromatherapy massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, prenatal massage, and vibroacoustic therapy — plus the patented HydraFacial, dermaplaning, customized facials, and facial waxing on the skincare side.

Because each practitioner is independent, spa pricing is set individually and isn't listed as a flat menu — the best approach is to contact the specialist directly to discuss your goals and current rates. What you can count on is that you'll be working with the owner of the practice, not a rotating staff member, every time you come in. That continuity matters most in wellness work, where understanding your history, your pain patterns, and your preferences compounds session over session.

Dancing Flower Massage — Leslie Hopp, LMT

A massage therapist since 2016, Leslie specializes in aromatherapy and has developed her own style of massage, incorporating Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, aromatherapy, and hot towels in a cozy environment designed to help you melt into relaxation and reduced pain. She listens to each client's concerns and customizes every session. Leslie moved to the Grand Valley in 2003 to attend Mesa State College, earning a B.A. in fine arts — an artist's sensibility she brings to her immersive, art-filled treatment room. Sessions are available in 60, 90, and 120-minute formats, plus prenatal massage adapted to each stage of pregnancy. Book at massagebook.com/biz/dancingflowermassage or text (970) 201-4497.

Deep Alchemy Massage — Racheal Litsheim

Deep Alchemy Massage is built on the idea of transmuting pain into healing. As an intuitive massage therapist who experienced chronic pain firsthand, Racheal deeply understands its impact — that personal journey is what led her to the work. She combines therapeutic deep tissue, trigger point therapy, soothing Swedish, and restorative myofascial techniques with an empathetic touch to relieve persistent pain and melt away tension. A Valley native, she's also a dedicated mom and artist. Call (970) 640-8709 to book.

Spa & Wellness

Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT)

Leslie Hopp at Rooted Valley is Grand Junction's only certified vibroacoustic therapist — the only one of its kind in Western Colorado. Vibroacoustic therapy uses therapeutic sound frequencies delivered through the body to gently guide the nervous system out of stress patterns and into a more regulated, restorative state. When combined with massage, it works through both physical tension and underlying nervous-system holding patterns.

Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) uses sound to produce vibrations applied directly to the body. Because our bodies are composed mainly of water, those vibrations set the water in motion, and as the molecules react and communicate, a healthy resonance and harmony are restored within the body. It's a multisensory experience, not a standard massage.

What to expect

You step off Main Street into an insulated room where the outside world feels light years away. A full sound system delivers clean, crisp music; a state-of-the-art hydraulic vibroacoustic table delivers healing frequencies through your body in a full sound-bath experience. Leslie discusses your aches and goals, gives you time to settle and soak in the vibroacoustics, then begins the massage — using hot towels, optional aromatherapy, and Swedish, deep tissue, and sports techniques. Many clients leave so deeply relaxed they prefer to walk down Main Street to lunch before driving.

Immersive Vibroacoustic Massage

Available in 60, 90, and 120-minute sessions, blending the vibroacoustic table with hands-on massage for a deep level of release.

Golden Orb Vibroacoustic Meditation — 30 minutes

A 30-minute guided vibroacoustic meditation designed to quiet the mind, soften the body, and bring you into a deeply restorative state of inner stillness — beautiful on its own or as part of an ongoing nervous-system care practice.

The Boutique

The Local Artisan Boutique

The boutique at Rooted Valley features more than a dozen local makers — handmade jewelry, small-batch and organic skincare, herbal botanicals, copper art, ceramics, Rooted plant starts, and one-of-a-kind gifts. Everything is handmade, small-batch, or independently created, and available in-store at 644 & 646 Main Street. No appointment is needed to browse.

When you shop the boutique at Rooted Valley, you're supporting real people and real craft. The space was curated to celebrate local creativity and intentional living, and the maker roster spans jewelry, skincare, botanicals, art, and home goods. Many of the makers create locally and in nearby areas such as Moab; their work is stocked in the boutique year-round on a rotating basis.

It's worth noting that not every maker is local in the sense of living in Grand Junction — several create in Moab, Cedaredge, the San Luis Valley, and elsewhere across the region — but every product is handmade, small-batch, or independently created, and all of it is available to browse and buy in-store without an appointment. The inventory rotates as makers restock and new artisans join, so it's worth stopping in regularly. This is also why the boutique pairs so naturally with a salon or spa visit: many clients come in for a color appointment or a facial and leave with a welded bracelet, a jar of botanical skincare, and a one-of-a-kind gift.

Making the Choice

Choosing a Salon, Spa & Boutique in Grand Junction

Rooted Valley is the option for people who want master-level skill, an independent specialist who knows them by name, and the convenience of hair, spa, permanent jewelry, and local shopping in one downtown location. It's a fit if you value craft and relationship over the speed and anonymity of a walk-in chain.

Grand Junction has no shortage of places to get your hair done, and the right choice depends on what you're after. A few honest considerations as you decide:

If you want a relationship, not a rotation

At many salons you see whoever is available. At Rooted Valley you choose and book a specific specialist who owns their practice, so you see the same person every time. That continuity is the whole point — your colorist remembers your formula, your stylist knows how your hair behaves, and your massage therapist understands your pain patterns.

If skill level matters to you

The team's credentials are unusually deep for the market: a former National Color Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems, a former Hot Heads Extension Educator, stylists licensed since 1989 and 2002, the region's only certified vibroacoustic therapist, and an Aveda-trained licensed medical esthetician. For complex color, correction, extensions, or specialized wellness work, that experience is the difference.

If you prefer to plan ahead

Rooted Valley is built around booked appointments with independent specialists rather than walk-in volume. Same-day availability is limited, so the experience rewards planning. If you need a last-minute walk-in cut with no particular stylist, a high-volume chain may suit that specific need better — but you'll trade away the relationship and the specialization.

If supporting local matters

From the independent specialists to the boutique full of named local makers, nearly every dollar spent at Rooted Valley supports a local small business or artist. For clients who want their spending to reflect their values, that's a meaningful difference from a national chain.
